Information of the 2017-2018 School Nurse Program-- Information for Parents

The McCreary County Board of Education is partnering with Family Health Care Associates to provide nursing services for school year 2017/2018. We would like to give you some information about how the program will work and answer some questions you may have.

Family Health Care Associates is based in Knox County, Kentucky.  School nurses will be working with Family Nurse Practitioners to provide school physicals, immunizations, and screenings.  All school nurses will stay in the same school location and remain employees of the McCreary County School District.  School nurses will be working closely with the practitioners to provide care to students that become ill or need medical attention during the school day. When the school year began nursing consents were given to parents to complete. This consent gives the nurse and practitioner permission to provide care to the students.

Family Health Care will be submitting claims to insurance (Private and Medicaid) as students are seen in the school nurse clinic.  There will be NO charge or co pay required from parents.  Family Health Care is not charging the school board or the parents for their services. Proceeds from insurance, private and public, will be used to reimburse the district for nurses’ salaries and pay for medical supplies used on the students. This new contract will allow the district to keep a nurse in every school building without any cost to the district or to the parents.  All students will be seen regardless of insurance coverage.  In other words, if you do not have insurance, you still are not expected to pay for the service.  We are fortunate to have a school nurse in every school and this partnership will allow the continuation of that service.

If you have questions or concerns please feel free to ask any of our nursing staff and they will be glad to answer your questions.  We look forward to a wonderful year and we hope everyone has a safe and healthy school year.
