A Message From Supt. Cash Regarding The Impact Of Missing School Due to Snow/Inclement Weather From This Point Forward

Parents & Students,

The McCreary County School District has used all 10 Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) days for the 2017-2018 school year provided by the KY General Assembly.  From this day forward, each day the District is not in session a day will be added to the end of the school year.  The District has added time to each day throughout the year to be used for delays and/or early release.  But, this time can only be used if students “enter the door” of the buildings.

Today, February 5, is the first day we will have to make up. Unfortunately, the state does not forgive missed days due to snow. However, after the District has missed and made up 20 instructional days we can submit emergency day waivers that must be approved by the commissioner of education per KRS 158.070 and 702 KAR 7:140.

Please note, NTI days are counted as days of instruction and attendance; therefore, NTI days do not count as missed days.

Basically, every day we miss due to weather or other reasons will result in adding an additional day onto the school calendar. As of today, the last day for students is Tuesday, May 15.

Respectfully,

Michael M. Cash
Superintendent,
McCreary County School District
