McCreary Academy, McCreary
County Schools Alternative Education Program, provides a structured and
positive learning environment for students that
struggle in a normal educational setting. The Academy
provides educational service for
up to 100 students, ranging from grades 6 - 12. Students are
accepted into the Academy for an array of opportunities, which include
Credit Recovery, Behavior, and Social Intervention. We, at the Academy,
strive to help our students reach their full academic potential
daily. Students are not only involved in their regularly scheduled
academic classes, they also participate in: Advisory Groups,
Behavior/Social Counseling, and Substance Abuse Counseling. Academy
students have the opportunity to discuss their educational and life
objectives by working toward removing all barriers that may be preventing
them from reaching their desired goals.
McCreary
We Believe: ü
Students
can learn, and high expectations increase individual performance. ü
Students
are responsible for their behavior and learn to make appropriate
decisions. ü
Administrators,
teachers, staff, students, and parents provide a positive and safe school
environment that enhances learning. ü
Students
are valued individuals with unique physical, social, emotional, and
intellectual needs that reflect the diversity of our society. ü
The
school promotes an atmosphere that fosters social skills, citizenship, and
a strong work ethic. ü
Parents,
students, teachers, and the community are partners in the process of
education; therefore, we share the responsibility of supporting our
school’s mission through communication and cooperation. ü
Students
must choose to make a commitment to academic success, and they will be
supported by a school, home, and community partnership. ü Students learn best when actively engaged in the learning process and provided with a variety of instructional approaches that identify and nurture each student’s interests and abilities.
