I am First Sergeant (Retired) Garry J Galloway, a native of Winnabow North Carolina, and currently assigned as the Senior Army Instructor for McCreary Central High School. I retired 30 September 2012 from the United States Army after 27 years of service. My last, active duty station was Senior Military Instructor at the University of Richmond, Virginia.
I graduated from South Brunswick High School in 1985 and shipped off to One Unit Station Training (OUST) to become an Armor Crew member 19K at Fort Knox KY. My first and favored duty station was Germany which I served there from February 1986-August 1989. I served in numerous other duty stations to include Fort Hood, Texas First Calvary Division, South Korea twice , 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart Georgia, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Knox, Kentucky twice, 16th Calvary Regiment, and Fort Bragg, North Carolina 1/312th Infantry and the University of Richmond Virginia.
I also deployed to combat with Fort Hood Texas First Calvary Division 3/32 Armor Battalion in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm and 1/312th Infantry out of Fort Bragg in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. I also deployed with First Calvary and 3rd Infantry Division for Intrinsic Action Rotation in 1992 and 1998.
Over my 27 years of service, I was awarded the Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal(3rd award), Army Commendation Medal(8th award), Army Achievement Medal(6th award), Army Superior Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal(7th award), National Defense Service Medal(2nd award), Southwest Asia Service Medal , Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Armored Forces Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Service Ribbon (3rd award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon(3rd award) , Kuwait Liberation Medal (from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait), Expert Marksmanship Badge for Rifle, Pistol, Grenade and Rifle . I attended numerous service schools which included graduation from M1A2 Master Gunner School, M1A1 Master Gunner School, Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC) Basic Armor Non –Commission Officer (NCO) Course (BNCOC), Advanced NCO Course (ANCOC) and First Sergeant Course. I earned my Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Fayetteville State University in 2007. I plan to continue my education at Union College to receive my Masters in Education. I received certification as an Army Instructor through Cadet Command in 2012.
I have been married to my wife, Carmen, since December 2014.
