Senate Bill 128 – Supplemental School Year

The Kentucky Legislature passed SB 128, an act allowing current Kentucky K-12 students to request that
the 2021-2022 school year be a supplemental or "extra" school year. This was signed into law by
Governor Andy Beshear. Students would be able to repeat, retake, or supplement courses or graded
levels already completed. SB 128 requires that formal requests from parents (or students 18 years or
older) must be received by May 1, 2021. The McCreary County Board of Education must make a
decision by June 1, 2021 as to whether or not to approve the requests. SB 128 stipulates that boards
must approve all of the requests or none of the requests. They may not be considered on an individual
basis.
