Welcome to the McCreary County School District Transportation Department
The objective of the Transportation Department is to transport students to and from school, sporting events, and trips, in the safest, most efficient, and courteous manner as possible. The transportation of students is part of the education experience and it is our desire that all students cooperate by following state guidelines and school district bus rules as set by Kentucky and our Code of Conduct established by our school district, and outlined in our School Policy and Procedure Manual.
Our buses travel approximately 4,000 miles daily. There are 44 regular routes, 6 special needs and beginning this school year, our preschool now ride based on our regular routes and with a Pre-School Aide. We provide bus service for extended school services programs, summer school, field trips, academic, athletic and club competitions. A midday bus is provided for students who participate in the community based work transition program and community based instruction. Two evening buses are provided for students who participate in sports activities / practices.
The McCreary County bus fleet consists of 56, with 4 of them now Thomas, and the remainder International, and all with diesel engines. All buses are equipped with two-way radio communications systems. Four Buses purchased last year, began with Thomas buses, and 4 additional Thomas buses will be ready for the 2018-2019 School year. Utilizing the latest in technology in the video sysems on the bus and now those with cameras checking forward and back of the stop sign, in an attempt to stop those drivers who ignore them. Safety for all our students is our priority. Kentucky Department of Education's Pupil Transportation Branch is dedicated to the safe transport of Kentucky's school children. Kentucky is nationally renown for its driver training with many states modeling its' program. It has received numerous awards on the national level for this program. We are happy that McCreary County School District Transportation Department is a part of that program. Our drivers are well trained.
